Bird Watching & Wildlife
A Sanctuary for Nature Enthusiasts
Bird Watching
Die Boer & Die Belg is a haven for bird lovers, with more than 400 recorded bird species thriving across the farm’s diverse ecosystems.
The abundance of birdlife is sustained by the property’s exceptional water resources, creating an environment that attracts both resident and migratory species. Guests may encounter remarkable sightings such as the African Cuckoo Hawk, while avid birders are often delighted by the rare yellow variation of the Crimson-breasted Shrike — a truly exceptional sighting. The colourful Bee-eater family is also frequently observed throughout the estate.
Whether you are an experienced birder or a casual observer, every walk and game drive offers the opportunity for unforgettable encounters with South Africa’s rich avian diversity.
Wildlife
As the golden African sun begins to set, the farm’s expansive six-hectare open veld transforms into a gathering place for a variety of wildlife species.
Guests can enjoy sightings of blue wildebeest, kudu, zebra, impala, blesbok, and the occasional nyala grazing peacefully across the landscape. Giraffe and numerous other indigenous species also roam freely throughout the property, creating an authentic and immersive bushveld experience.
Every game drive reveals a new perspective on the natural beauty and biodiversity that make Die Boer & Die Belg so unique.
A Landscape of Remarkable Diversity
Die Boer & Die Belg is recognised as one of the most water-rich properties in the region, with abundant boreholes capable of producing more than 300,000 litres of water daily. The estate is further enriched by a substantial natural spring and two additional springs that sustain its diverse habitats throughout the year.
The landscape unfolds as a tapestry of contrasting ecosystems. Guests can journey through dense, forest-like areas, sweeping grasslands, thornveld, flourishing wetlands, and even surprisingly sparse, desert-like terrain — each offering its own distinctive character and wildlife.
Ancient Trees & Natural Heritage
Among the farm’s many natural treasures stands one of South Africa’s largest River Bush Willows. Estimated to be between 150 and 200 years old, this magnificent tree serves as a living testament to the enduring beauty of the Waterberg.
The estate is also home to approximately 77 tree species, including Acacia and Combretum varieties, as well as iconic indigenous species such as the Silver Cluster-leaf (Terminalia sericea), Wild Pear (Dombeya rotundifolia), Shepherd’s Tree (Boscia albitrunca), and the beloved Marula (Sclerocarya birrea).
Together, these remarkable botanical treasures contribute to a landscape of extraordinary ecological richness and timeless African beauty.
